Review in a Nutshell: A gruesome, darkly satirical and very pointed horror-comedy that also serves as a reverse “home invasion” film, Ready or Not (2019) wears its politics on its sleeve.

I didn’t think of this film as notably political, unless you think of “Satanic Panic” as a kind of politics. At least in You’re Next the source of the money was the military-industrial complex, and the villains were motivated by obtaining the money for themselves at the expense of their families rather than being doomed by a curse passed down by their ancestor’s deal with the Devil.
I disagree on the husband. He’s established at the beginning as wanting to keep his wife away from his awful family, suggesting that they elope rather than have an actual marriage at the mansion. The reason he changes sides is not “class solidarity” (that should have applied earlier), but seeing his mother beaten to death by his wife.
I didn’t get any impression that she would be arrested at the end of the film (in stark contrast to You’re Next, which makes it explicit). Rather, because the family really did spontaneously combust, there wouldn’t be any way to attribute that to her. At most they could tie her to beating her mother-in-law, but then the authorities would have to come up with some explanation other than hers how everyone else blew up.
The stance that the children of wealth are incompetent contrasts with the notorious tweet claiming that the Romanov children merited killing more than the Tsar himself https://x.com/nikicaga/status/1928433982217023634
the curse they are doomed by is called “generational wealth” 🙂
