Watch out for those eighties pop song references, because Bangkok Dangerous is the Greatest Movie EVER!
Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring guest cohost Jeff “Rich Lather” Tatarek of the Lather’s Blather Podcast.
Review in a Nutshell: A stylish crime drama done by two brothers who desperately want to be John Woo, Bangkok Dangerous is bad, but not as bad as the reviews would have you believe. Also, Nic Cage has fabulous hair.
This movie contains:
Nic Cage, Master of Disguise.
Fat Daryl Surat.
Moon Face.
I have prayed to the God of Chaos for this review! I hope you do Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans next. I hear it’s Classic Cage.
Nicholas Cage’s narration in this movie sounds like John Madden if John Madden killed other people instead of slowly killing himself with fatty foods. The voiceover was just so obvious and redundant, given that the action onscreen wasn’t exactly subtle or deep.
I did a podcast of this back when it came out at Theatres. Ugh I saw this on a big screen. This Cage thing is all over the place and I love it!
I didnt know what to think when this film came out in theaters and after listening to the podcast I’m thinking about putting this in the “skip” pile
Charlie Yeung is only ten years younger than Cage. She’s just aging a whole lot better.
Why does the pharmacy let the girl who can’t speak and can’t understand English wait on the American, when we see seconds later that the other, older employee in the pharmacy speaks fluent English?
Bad Lieutenant is definitely classic Cage. It’s frankly an incredible movie. A completely bizarre thrill ride that never flags.
Also, the sports writer Joe Posnanski did a write up about Brendan Fraser that I think translates equally well to The Cage. http://joeposnanski.com/JoeBlog/2010/05/03/my-favorite-actor/
Great podcast as usual, the Cage Rage feature is working out pretty well, but I must ask, when is the Captain Corelli’s Mandolin podcast going to be?
