Review in a Nutshell: An atypical Western filled with strong feminist themes, male insecurity, and sublimated sexual tension, Johnny Guitar is an oddly subversion film from the 1950s. It’s little wonder that French New Wave directors loved this film.

Wow, not a single comment?
JOHNNY GUITAR was one of those “essential cult movies” that I somehow never got a chance to see when I was in film school or later – I’m thinking that, now that it’s available on DVD and Blu-Ray, I should see if Netflix has it, or buy it if it’s not too expensive….
How have I never heard of this movie before?!?!?! It seems to hit all the “Rachel” buttons!
Wow. I had no desire to listen to this episode at all. Now, I really wanna see this movie. Thank you.
Rachel, it’s one of those “cult movies” that you hear about in film school – or did in the Seventies when I went. I’d heard about it, but it was largely unavailable then, so I never saw it.
I ordered the Blu-Ray, so we’ll see if it lives up to its reputation….
How much of the situation would have been made better with a few precise uses of the VATS system?
