Review in a Nutshell: A commercial and critical failure at the time of its release, Clue has since gained a cult following thanks to its snappy writing, multiple endings, and inspired comedic performances. Clue is also one of Katherin’s favorite movies.
Can’t believe you didn’t recognize Lee Ving, he was DeFoe’s second-in-command in “Streets of Fire”.
Saw this in the theater (got ending number 3). This is a cult movie from the beginning, it is funny on the big screen, but it is a LOT funnier in repetition, The other issue is they marketed it as a mystery, when it is much more a farce (yes it works as a mystery, but that isn’t the draw). Landis also did “Oscar”, which is more than a little similar, and features Tim Curry being crazy, if not as consistently funny.
Reviews weren’t pans, just a LOT of mediocre ones. Ebert was about 2 stars, but he never liked “stage” shows done for movies (Noises off, and Rosencranz and Guildenstern really got hit for this). Again, I think a lot of them thought they were seeing a different sort of movie.
