Holy crap, first Dragonslayer, now Gunhed? At this point I don’t care if you trash or praise it. I’m just happy someone’s talking about it.
How’s this for sad–back in the day I did a fansub of this, using the Viz comic book for a “script”. I’d still put it at 85-90% accurate, thanks to college-level Japanese classes bolstered by years of anime watching.
Oh dear Lord, I’m sad.
I think my favorite thing about this movie is that they pull the “You will know when the time is right” wizard nonsense, but then when the time IS right, rather than depending on the hero suddenly knowing the time is right, the other guy just yells out, “Now! The time is right now!”
Is it wrong that I had never heard of this movie until this esteemed podcast? I feel so uneducated…
I always enjoyed the scene where the princess essentially cusses out Galen in what sounded like Latin. Okay, it wasn’t really profanity, but she did tell him off!
Ivan, don’t feel bad. That’s what we’re here for: to high-jack your brain into a state of Nerdvana via the telepathic transmissions of the Interwebs.
But seriously, I try to focus on lesser-known or under-appreciated films whenever possible. Nothing pleases me more than when I get feedback where someone says they’re glad to hear about a given film on the podcast.
