Review in a Nutshell: A horror-comedy starring Nicolas Cage as a silent protagonist murdering an abandoned theme park full of Satanic animatronics, Willy’s Wonderland is a fun little film whose obvious flaws are buoyed up by a great soundtrack and some quirky character acting.
So the movie thinks it’s in 2020 and came out in 2021, the podcast about the movie was recorded in 2021 and came out in 2022. I see what you did there.
Just as Zoe went into “Pig” with “John Wick with a pig,” I was spurred into viewing Mandy after reading some sort of AV Club year-end roundup about how 2018 was a good year for horror/action, and Mandy was placed at #1, edging out The Night Comes for Us. So I went in expecting a gorefest, and was completely disappointed
Paul paid a total of $25 to watch this twice, I watched this for free on Hulu and it wasn’t even worth the time I spent watching it once.
It would work better as a critique of capitalism if Willy’s Wonderland was actually open for business rather than closed for decades.
Not only were the teens godawful, but even the music was interminable to sit through. And the teens just stand around watching the still animatronics while music played!
This isn’t “the suburbs”. There is no reference to any city this place is a suburb of. It’s the boonies.
