Hold onto your gray matter, because The Brain from Planet Arous is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Review in a Nutshell: A body-snatching science fiction film made on a shoestring budget, The Brain from Planet Arous nevertheless conveys a wonderful sense of tension thanks to the performances of John Agar and Joyce Meadows. There are also some surprisingly creepy special effects, not counting the giant papier-mâché brain.

Sounds like you liked this movie more than I did, Paul.

If I remember it correctly, it’s also sexist as Hell….

  2. gooberzilla says:

We talk about that on the podcast.

Oh, yes! I see now MoM is co-hosting – I guess the topic WOULD come up then…. 😀

I usually end up posting before I get to download and listen to the episode – that way, I get comments sent to my e-mail, and know what the conversation is about.

The usage of sampling from Arous is possibly due to its public domain status. For many royalty-free sample CDs for trance or otherwise electronica, cheesy bombastic clips from B-movies were perfect fits for filling the data tracks. Arous was one of the films chosen due to its loss of copyright.

Still looking for the B-movie that another frequently used sample “Time is running out for the planet Earth” comes from.

I love this podcast but these old b movies are not that interesting to hear someone talk about.

    We need good Shiz stat!

I can’t agree, @ziggurat 8 – I like hearing a different take on classic cult movies, and a lot of the recent films…kind of suck, honestly.

I didn’t intend to do two 1950s B-movies in a row. It just sort of shook out that way. It was either that or two killer ooze movies in a row, and I didn’t want to do that if I could avoid it.

  8. I want MORE 1950s B-movies. MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Travis says:

Yeah, I like the older stuff. Variety is nice.
