Review in a Nutshell: One part straightforward kung fu revenge flick, sixteen parts pure absurdity, Kung Pow! Enter the Fist is what happens when you give Steve Oedekerk free rein to work his patented nuttiness on a martial arts movie spoof. It’s an acquired taste, to be sure. Wee oo wee oo.
It’s time for another installment of GME! Anime Fun Time, and this time Tom and I are taking a look at a short form fantasy comedy TV anime known as Bikini Warriors. The show has about as much depth as you would expect for being based on a series of ecchi figurines, so topics include the influence of Dragon Quest and discussions of similar fantasy properties. Review in a Nutshell: Death is easy, comedy is hard. Despite an all-star cast and the writing talents of the creator of The Odd Couple, I found Murder by Death to be brutally unfunny, although we can’t quite put our finger on why this meta-textual critique of the foibles of the murder mystery genre doesn’t work.
The October entry of GME! Anime Fun Time isn’t exactly spook-tacular: Tom, Sean Forster, Dawn, and I look back on the early days of our fandom with a title that used to be terribly important to all of us: Ranma 1/2. Topics of discussion include Rumiko Takahashi’s other works, how our tastes have changed over the years, and how Hayao Miyazaki created the universe (not really). Review in a Nutshell: An independent film with strong production design, a great concept, and a killer soundtrack, Six-String Samurai suffers from questionable comic timing and an inconsistent tone. It’s not as entertaining as I want it to be, although Sean enjoyed it more on a second viewing.
It’s demihuman fan-service galore as Tom, Andrew, and I explore Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls, a 2015 TV anime based on the manga of the same name by Okayada.
We discuss our favorite visual puns, the mixed reactions that the show inspires among anime fans, and a brief but surprisingly serious critical interpretation for a sex comedy starring harpies, lamia, and centaurs.

Get ready for improbable multiple weapon use, because The Legend 1 & 2 are both the Greatest Movie EVER!

Review in a Nutshell: Despite some misleading American packaging, The Legend 1 & 2 (aka Fong Sai-Yuk 1 & 2, aka The Legend of Fong Sai-Yuk 1 & 2) are a fun mix of comedy, drama, and martial arts mayhem from the earlier 90’s. While it’s nice to see Jet Li in a comedic leading role, Josephine Siao ends up stealing the show as Fong Sai-yuk’s irascible kung fu wielding mother.
FINAL THOUGHT:
Jet Li does indeed have a lovely smile.
It’s a new year, and what better way to celebrate than with a comprehensive review that barely scratches the surface of the wonders of One Punch Man?
