Make Mine MANT!

Hold on to your popcorn, because Matinee (1993) is the Greatest Movie EVER?

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring “Celebrity Translator” Neil Nadelman.

Review in a Nutshell: Awash in nostalgia and soaked in the anxiety of the threat of Cold War era nuclear annihilation, Matinee (1993) is a film oddity and a loving tribute to the oeuvre of master movie marketer William Castle.

“Baby! Baby! Baby!”

Try to control your parental instincts, because Z.P.G. (“Zero Population Growth”) is the Greatest Movie EVER? Click on the title or the movie poster above to download our review of the film, featuring “Celebrity Translator” Neil Nadelman.

Review in a Nutshell: An extremely pessimistic, Danish / American eco-disaster science fiction film from 1972, Z.P.G. posits a polluted future where having children is a capital offense. It’s an unusual cultural artifact with a few points that feel strangely relevant to the present.

Make Mine Murder-Chimp

Rev up the geospheres, because The Lawnmower Man is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the Bluray cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring “Celebrity Translator” Neil Nadelman.

Review in a Nutshell: A low-budget science fiction film with pioneering computer graphics and a burbling anxiety about the future abuses of virtual reality technologies that have as-yet failed to materialize, The Lawnmower Man bears no real resemblance to its source material, but the production design and performances are good despite a muddled narrative and inconsistent tone and pacing.

Bonus Episode: Jaeger Bomb

Fire up your giant robots and get ready to “drift”, because Pacific Rim: Uprising is (probably not) the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Gerald Rathkolb of AnimeWorldOrder.

Review in a Nutshell: A film filled with baffling narrative and editorial decisions, Pacific Rim: Uprising is a prime example of what happens when artistic choices give way to financial and marketing ones.

Stomp Romp / Zilla Thrilla: Banished to Space Crystal Prison

Hang on to your drill bits, because Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the banner image or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring featuring Franklin Raines of Oddity Game Seekers.

Review in a Nutshell: A film that is at once incredibly simplistic and needlessly convoluted, Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla is less of a movie-going experience and more a springboard for discussion about what happens when giant monster movies go wrong.

Finally, It’s Kamiya’s Time to Shine!

Hold on to you Metis Cannon, because Zeiram is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the DVD cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Mike Dent of Vintage Henshin.

Review in a Nutshell: Despite it’s occasional pacing issues, Zeiram is a low-budget, high concept tokusatsu science fiction film that serves as a great introduction to the medium. The prop and monster designs are especially noteworthy.

A Series of Questionable Hairpieces.

nemesis

Hold on to your humanity, because Nemesis (1992) is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring guest co-host Tom Aznable.

Review in a Nutshell: A straight-to-video cyberpunk science fiction mash-up of Blade Runner, Snatcher, and The Terminator, Nemesis (1992) makes up for its derivative story with incredible stunt-work, excellent practical special effects, and ludicrous gun-play. It’s a tremendously enjoyable little film.

Bonus Episode: The Quatro Must Flow…

Obey the three drink minimum, because FP2: Beats of Rage is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Daryl Surat of AnimeWorldOrder.

This bonus episode is brought to you thanks to the generous contributions of the GME! Podcast patrons on Patreon.

Review in a Nutshell: A sequel that leans in hard on the rural / suburban absurdities of the first film, FP2: Beats of Rage is a loving homage to very specific period of Millenial pop culture, and whether its style of crass humor and epic fantasy nonsense will appeal to you is anybody’s guess. It hit the sweet spot for me, but my guest feels the film could have been even more exaggerated.

May I Offer You a Roast Iguana in These Trying Times?

Strap on your post-apocalyptic rugby armor, because The Blood of Heroes is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the DVD cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring guest host Kara Dennison.

Review in a Nutshell: A sports movie set in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, The Blood of Heroes is a surprisingly uplifting film with a spartan script and great performances, make-up, and production design. Don’t sleep on this one, folks. It’s fun on the bun.

Stomp Romp / Zilla Thrilla: Do Not Sass Godzilla

You can’t keep a good (or even a mediocre) Godzilla down, and this time we’re looking at the aptly named Godzilla 2000 (aka Godzilla: Millenium), the first entry in Toho’s “Millenium” series of giant monster movies. CLICK HERE or on the banner above to join Jeremy and I was we share our experiences of seeing Godzilla in the theater and as we apply a perhaps too-critical lens to a movie featuring noodly space aliens and Hiroshi Abe’s impeccable fashion-sense.
