Review in a Nutshell: Critically panned and commercially a bomb, I, Frankenstein had the potential to be an entertaining supernatural action flick. Unfortunately, the script never manages to glue together its disparate elements, and as a result the Frankenstein character feels like an afterthought in the movie that bears his name.
It’s a new year, and we’re ready to have some more Anime Fun Time! Join Andrew and Paul as they try to explain the Byzantine narrative contortions of Tatakau Shisho, aka The Book of Bantorra, to an unsuspecting Tom. Review in a Nutshell: A terrible mish-mash of raunchy adult comedy with family-friendly summer adventure movie, Howard the Duck is legendarily bad. How it managed to garner a cult following despite its numerous flaws continues to confound explanation. Rachel and Sean love it, though.
Fire up the Wave Motion Gun, because Space Battleship Yamato (2010) is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Review in a Nutshell: Opinions are divided on Space Battleship Yamato. On one hand, it’s a very faithful adaptation of the genre-making anime from the Seventies. On the other hand, some of the changes that were made for time and budget reasons are likely to upset some of the long-time fans.
Fry up some chicken, because Carnosaur is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Review in a Nutshell: Carnosaur is a gruesome, low-budget, Roger Corman-produced Jurassic Park knock-off. Katherin does not appreciate its many rich, deep layers of nuance and social commentary.

Review in a Nutshell: Appleseed: Alpha has excellent visual design and some good character moments, but a weak antagonist, a derivative plot, and far too little action. Still, it has cyborgs driving things, so A+ / 5 Stars / Would Buy from Again.

Review in a Nutshell: Starchaser is an oddity. A 3D film with rotoscoped animation, Starchaser is also a blatant Star Wars knockoff filled with weird religious symbolism and uncomfortable subtext. Watch it at your peril.
