GME! Anime Fun Time Episode #29 – Robot Carnival
It’s finally here! After many long months of delays (this was originally recorded on September 23rd, 2017), the Robot Carnival podcast has arrived. CLICK HERE or on the DVD cover above to listen to Dawn, Tom, and myself talk about this eclectic animated anthology from 1987 about sad robots, robot sadness, and the general inability for teenager girls to hold onto their lockets.
“Draw.”
Strap on your six guns, because Westworld (1973) is the Greatest Movie EVER!
Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Sean “Hollywood” Hunting.
Review in a Nutshell: A low-budget, high-concept genre film that predates the popular usage of the phrase “computer virus”, Westworld (1973) is a compelling science fiction thriller with solid performances, strong character writing, and special effects that have stood the test of time.
Naked Endoskeleton Tai Chi
Prepare coffee for your horses, because R.O.T.O.R. is the Greatest Movie EVER!
Click on the VHS cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Andrew Collie of CollectionDX.
Review in a Nutshell: An inspired rip-off of both The Terminator and RoboCop, R.O.T.O.R. is the sort of film that is breath-taking in its complete and total cinematic incompetence. It must be seen to be believed.
FINAL THOUGHT:
That pose looks awfully familiar…
Cavemen with Laser Rifles, Pew Pew.
Hold on to your fur boots and your flint ax-heads, because Yor: The Hunter from the Future is undeniably The Greatest Movie EVER!
Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Katherin the Great.
Review in a Nutshell: A zany mash-up of post-apocalyptic and prehistoric films, Yor: The Hunter from the Future is buoyed up by the charming performance of Reb Brown as a futuristic caveman with perfect hair and a winning smile. Also included are lethal robots, savage tribes, and giant rubber dinosaurs.
FINAL THOUGHT:
The infamous hang-gliding scene.
Karate Invasion! Fly, Two Horns, Fly!
Monitor your processor run times, because Appleseed: Alpha is the Greatest Movie EVER!
Click on the Bluray cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Dave and Joel from Fast Karate for the Gentleman.
Review in a Nutshell: Appleseed: Alpha has excellent visual design and some good character moments, but a weak antagonist, a derivative plot, and far too little action. Still, it has cyborgs driving things, so A+ / 5 Stars / Would Buy from Again.
Final Thought:
Oh, Two Horns. You so crazy.
All About that Robot Booty.
Hold onto your (robot) butts, because Starchaser: The Legend of Orin is (probably not) the Greatest Movie EVER!
Click on the inexplicable movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring guest host Oli Bulmer.
Review in a Nutshell: Starchaser is an oddity. A 3D film with rotoscoped animation, Starchaser is also a blatant Star Wars knockoff filled with weird religious symbolism and uncomfortable subtext. Watch it at your peril.
4th DIMENSIONAL ATTACK!?!
Strap on your space bikini, because Star Crash is definitely the Greatest Movie EVER!
Click on the DVD cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Katherin the Great.
Review in a Nutshell: Star Crash is an Italian Star Wars knock-off that is amazingly bad on every technical level. Ridiculous, absurd, and illogical, it manages to turn a 92 minute run time into a torturous cinematic experience that lasts an eternity. I love it. I haven’t laughed so hard in years.
This movie contains:
Leaping Cavemen.
Mind Lasers.
Joe Spinell, Space Tyrant.
Faster, Robot! Kill, Kill!
Hold onto your ice cream cones, because Chopping Mall is the Greatest Movie EVER!
Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring guest host Max Dunn.
Review in a Nutshell: A low budget slasher flick produced by Roger Corman and directed by Jim Wynorski, Chopping Mall is better than it has any right to be. The killer robots steal the show.
This movie contains:
Chewing Gum.
If Loving Robots is Wrong…
Hide the freon, because Crash and Burn is the Greatest Movie EVER!
Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Andrew from The Veef Show.
Review in a Nutshell: A low-budget science fiction slasher film, Crash and Burn cribs more from The Terminator than from earlier Charles Band properties. Along with Robot Wars, this is one of many films purported to be a sequel to Robot Jox.
This movie contains:
The Future!
Hand Trauma.
Bill Moseley, Paragon of Acting Technology.
Melancholy Robots.
