I Meant “The Long Goodbye”, Not “The Big Sleep”.

It’s an ace detective team-up for the centuries, and Murder by Death is (probably not) the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the title or the movie poster above to download our review of the film, featuring M.O.M..

Review in a Nutshell: Death is easy, comedy is hard. Despite an all-star cast and the writing talents of the creator of The Odd Couple, I found Murder by Death to be brutally unfunny, although  we can’t quite put our finger on why this meta-textual critique of the foibles of the murder mystery genre doesn’t work.

That Wushu That You Do

You can’t learn Snake Fist without breaking some eggs, and Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the DVD cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Sean “Hollywood” Hunting.

Review in a Nutshell: Featuring Yuen Woo-ping’s directorial debut, Jackie Chan’s first big break-out performance, and the creation of Simon Yuen’s legendary “Sam Seed / Beggar So” character, Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow is an important and entertaining martial arts film.

GME! Anime Fun Time #24 – Baoh

thumb

Before there was JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, super fabulous manga auteur Hirohiko Araki created Baoh, a silly, stylish, ultra-violent shonen manga that was adapted in 1989 into an OAV with animation by Studio Pierrot. CLICK HERE or on the image above to join Tom, Dylan, and Paul as they take a trip down memory lane and discuss such subjects as the joys of bad dubbing and exquisite dog-murder in the latest installment of GME! Anime Fun Time.

Not to be Confused with ‘Hard Rain’.

Gas up the Sea-Doo, because Deep Rising is the Greatest Movie EVER?

Click on the DVD cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring guest host Matt “Saint Mort” Kelly of the Horror Movie Night podcast.

Review in a Nutshell: A typical Stephen Summers action-horror movie with some questionable screenwriting and some dodgy CG, Deep Rising is none-the-less remembered fondly by many fans. I am not one of those fans.

Biker Ninjas from Miami

Hold onto your guitars, because Miami Connection is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring M.O.M., the Mistress of Malapropisms.

Review in a Nutshell: A passion project made by film-makers whose reach far exceeded their grasp, Miami Connection is an earnest and enthusiastic entry in the excesses of Eighties independent film. What other movie features drug-dealing, motorcycle-riding ninjas squaring off against a tae kwon do rock band?

GME! Anime Fun Time Episode #23 – Little Witch Academia

little-witch-acc

Our spooky Halloween episode of GME! Anime Fun Time is a bit late this year, as Evan Minto of Ani-Gamers, Thomas Pandich, and I take a gander at Little Witch Academia, a pair of fantasy-themed works of original net animation directed by Yoh Yoshinari and animated by Studio TRIGGER. Topics of discussion include our expectations for the upcoming Little Witch Academia TV series, our current slate of anime assignments, and Evan being transformed into a Pokémon butt. CLICK HERE or on the image above to download our review.

Not to be confused with “Funky Town”.

phantom_town

Gas up the 1967 Chevy Impala, because Phantom Town (also known as Spooky Town) is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the VHS box cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Sean “Hollywood” Hunting.

Review in a Nutshell: As far as low budget, “Weird West” children’s films about a suburban family succumbing to the depredations of an unspeakable Lovecraftian eldritch horror go, Phantom Town isn’t bad. Okay, it’s actually pretty bad, but its bizarre premise alone makes it worth watching at least once.

And here is what the cover of the 2013 DVD released by Moonbeam Entertainment looks like. Too spooky!

GME! Anime Fun Time Episode # 22 – Ranma 1/2

ranma_bluray_05

The October entry of GME! Anime Fun Time isn’t exactly spook-tacular: Tom, Sean Forster, Dawn, and I look back on the early days of our fandom with a title that used to be terribly important to all of us: Ranma 1/2. Topics of discussion include Rumiko Takahashi’s other works, how our tastes have changed over the years, and how Hayao Miyazaki created the universe (not really). Is Ranma 1/2 a classic, or something that is better left to the past? CLICK HERE or on the Bluray cover above to download our review and find out.

No Chief Brody Jokes, Please.

Tune up your trucks, because Sorcerer is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring guest host Oli “InvidNinja92” Bulmer.

Review in a Nutshell: A commercial and critical failure in 1977, Sorcerer has been rediscovered thanks to its release on Bluray. A tense, anxious, and nihilistic film, Sorcerer is considered by some film historians to be one of the last great films of the “New Hollywood” period. Some of the action sequences have to be seen to be believed.

ERRATA: I accidentally referred to the 1950’s movie with the giant, radioactive locusts as The Day the World Ended. The correct title is Beginning of the End.

A Podcast Event 3 Years in the Making

ben_hur

Man the oars, because Ben-Hur (1959) is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Tom Pandich, Internet Terrorist.

Review in a Nutshell: Widely recognized as one of the greatest films in American cinematic history, Ben-Hur is a sprawling, epic tale of revenge and redemption. It’s also a million years long and Chuck Heston has all the on-screen charisma of chunk of granite. Are Tom and I able to pay proper reverence to a film that garnered as many Academy awards as The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King? Tune into find out.
