“Spooooky Wheelchair”

Beware of angry poltergeists, because The Changeling (1980) is the Greatest Movie EVER.

Click on the movie title or the poster above to download our review of the film, featuring “Celebrity Translator” Neil Nadelman.

Review in a Nutshell: The Changeling (1980) is a beautifully shot, gorgeously edited, low-key, suspenseful film that is part ghost story and part detective story. Although the final act stumbles a bit after all of the mysteries are revealed, it’s still interesting as a well-made, atypical horror movie.

ERRATA: I accidentally referred to House on Haunted Hill as 13 Ghosts. Mea culpa.

GME! Anime Fun Time Episode #11 – Mononoke

mononoke

It’s that time again, time to have some Anime Fun. This time Clarissa from Anime World Order joins us again to discuss the strange, supernatural, and visually unique 2007 TV anime, Mononoke. An original series based on the character of the Medicine Vendor from the earlier Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales, Mononoke features bright colors but dark subject matter, and it turns limited animation into an artistic statement rather than a budgetary consideration. Wax up your surfboard because American Ninja 2: The Confrontation is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring M.O.M., the Mistress of Malapropisms.

Review in a Nutshell: A film filled with hard-partying U.S. Marines and improbably ninja, American Ninja 2: The Confrontation is a largely derivative sequel that still manages to capture a lot of the zaniness that made the mini “ninja craze” of the Eighties such a unique period in film history. The presence of Steve James really elevates the film.

FINAL THOUGHT:

Kidnapping people at the beach is standard ninja operating procedure.

Batten down the hatches and stow the sails, because Matango: Attack of the Mushroom People is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the Japanese movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring M.O.M. and many mushrooms.

Review in a Nutshell: Although M.O.M. disagrees, I feel that Matango is a cinematic rarity in that it is both bleak, nihilistic, and psychedelic. The special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya and company as well as the set dressing are especially good. Who is the real monstrous mushroom? Who, indeed?

We’re back, fully licensed and fueled up to have some more Anime Fun Time with our special guest Basil from the OSMCast. This time we’re talking about the 2009 anime film, Redline, directed by Takeshi Koike. Topics of discussion include this under-appreciated film as well as Tom’s staggering Ranma 1/2 addiction and Basil’s improbable fascination with shojo and sports anime. Wear your color coordinated helmets, because BMX Bandits is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring M.O.M., the Mistress of Malapropisms.

Review in a Nutshell: This is an odd one. It’s a carefree children’s adventure movie filmed by a pioneer of violent, trashy Oz-ploitation flicks. BMX Bandits takes a while to deliver the bicycle-related goods and some of the stunts may seem tame by today’s standards, but overall this is a harmless kid’s movie filled with snarky, wise-cracking Australians.

All Grieco, All the Time.

Put on your X-ray specs, because ‘If Looks Could Kill’ is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Sean ‘Hollywood’ Hunting.

Review in a Nutshell: A comedic send-up of spy movies featuring Richard Grieco as a high-school French student turned involuntary secret agent, ‘If Looks Could Kill’ is both surprisingly gruesome and surprisingly humorous. It’s just the right level of dumb to be entertaining. Special thanks to Jeff Phillips for requesting this one through the IndieGoGo campaign.

Push-2009

Hold onto your neurons, because Push (2009) is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Clarissa from Anime World Order.

Review in a Nutshell: Push (2009) is a high concept action / science fiction film with surprisingly well realized characters and some genuinely entertaining moments. With a little tighter editing, it could have been a fun little cinematic gem, but as it stands its more a diamond in the rough.

“Is There a Doctor in the House?”

Make sure you warm up that stethoscope, because Dr. Giggles is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Tom ‘Internet Terrorist’ Pandich and Kristina ‘ChibiUFO’ Foster.

Review in a Nutshell: Dr. Giggles is a strange film. Ostensibly a horror movie, Larry Drake plays the titular slasher-villain like a live-action cartoon, while the rest of the cast is mostly dramatically serious in their roles. The contrast is jarring, and although I appreciate terrible puns as much as the next person, the movie never quite strikes the proper balance between horror and humor.

Yes, this scene is accompanied by at least one “give me a hand” pun. It’s mandatory.

Hold on to your fur boots and your flint ax-heads, because Yor: The Hunter from the Future is undeniably The Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Katherin the Great.

Review in a Nutshell: A zany mash-up of post-apocalyptic and prehistoric films, Yor: The Hunter from the Future is buoyed up by the charming performance of Reb Brown as a futuristic caveman with perfect hair and a winning smile. Also included are lethal robots, savage tribes, and giant rubber dinosaurs.

FINAL THOUGHT:

The infamous hang-gliding scene.
