Paul Chapman vs the Internet

Break out your Tumblr bingo card, because Scott Pilgrim vs the World may not be the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Tom and Rachel Pandich.

Review in a Nutshell: A technically adept film with outstanding visual composition and moments of genuine humor, Scott Pilgrim vs the World is nonetheless dragged under by an onslaught of unsympathetic characters. It is the triumph of style over substance.

“King of the Wicker People”

Fire up the Batsignal, because Batman (1989) is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the DVD cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Sean ‘Hollywood’ Hunting.

Review in a Nutshell: Batman (1989) is an uneven, sometimes idiosyncratic film that in some sense set the pattern for later superhero movies, for good or for ill. Although the Nolan films have eclipsed the work of Tim Burton and his cast and crew in the pop culture consciousness, this version of Batman was instrumental in reintroducing the Dark Knight to an entire generation of movie-goers.

Ruining Katherin’s Childhood (Again)

Hold onto your Omega Hedrons, because Supergirl is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring the return of Katherin “the Great”.

Review in a Nutshell:  A super hero film from a more innocent time, Supergirl seems painfully unsophisticated by modern standards.  Nonetheless it has some interesting imagery and a plot that can best be described as “completely bonkers”.

This movie contains:

Drunken Wizards.

KILLDOZER!

A Black Magic Woman.

Where does the rocket sled go?

Fire up the rocket-sled, because TIMECOP is the greatest movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Sean “Hollywood” Hunting.

Review in a Nutshell:  Ridiculous nudity, bad physics, henchmen with villainous hair, Ron Silver stealing every scene he’s in, and Jean Claude doing the splits.  Truly, TIMECOP is the apex of Western film.

This movie contains:

Presented without further comment.

ERRATA:  I meant Joel Schumacher, not Jerry Bruckheimer, when discussing Flatliners.

Revenge of the Ugly Puppy Syndrome

Fire up your motorcycle, because Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Daryl Surat of AnimeWorldOrder and Rachel Pandich, author of Aspire.

Review in a Nutshell:  This movie is enjoyably terrible, and the review strays into some surprisingly intellectual territory.  We are all shameless Nicolas Cage apologists. Do not believe our lies.

This is Not an April Fool’s Joke.

Strap on your cape, because Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the DVD cover or the movie title above to download our review of the film, featuring Sean “Hollywood” Hunting.

Review in a Nutshell:  Far from being a ‘betrayal’ or ‘the worst Superman movie’, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is a movie with big ideas and a tiny, tiny budget.  It remains the favorite Superman of both cohosts, whose taste as we all know is impeccable.

This movie contains:

Amazing volcanic special effects!

RAWR!

WTF?

ERRATA:  The Jackie Chan movie we mention in which Jackie Chan dresses up as Chun Li from Streetfighter is actually the live-action Hong Kong version of City Hunter.

Bonus Content: Something ‘Horrible’ for Halloween

Just in time for the holidays, here’s a bonus episode examining Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, featuring Katherin(e) the Great and her nerd-crush on Nathan Fillion.

Click on the poster or the title above to download our review of the musical web-based mini-series.

Topics of discussion include:  Joss Whedon’s various creative efforts, the utility of “clever” writing, the nature of super hero films, and what makes for an effective musical.

Bonus Content: Avengers Assemble!

Time for some more kiddy cartoons!

CLICK HERE or on the image above to download a bonus episode in which Sean “Hollywood” Hunting and I gush all over Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Review in a Nutshell:  Avengers is one of only a handful of Marvel animated properties that does justice to the source material.  It’s a great animated series that can be enjoyed by children of all ages, with sharp writing and strong characterization.

FINAL THOUGHT:

The theme song is @#$%ing terrible, though.

Chevy Nova?

Strap on your bandana, because Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Sean “Hollywood” Hunting.

Review in a Nutshell:  Nostalgia notwithstanding, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles holds up surprisingly well for a children’s film.  The action and humor are solid, and the special effects and puppetry still look great even 20+ years later.

This movie contains:

Ninjas.

Casey Jones.

Underage Smoking.

Sam Rockwell!?!
