Review in a Nutshell: Batman (1989) is an uneven, sometimes idiosyncratic film that in some sense set the pattern for later superhero movies, for good or for ill. Although the Nolan films have eclipsed the work of Tim Burton and his cast and crew in the pop culture consciousness, this version of Batman was instrumental in reintroducing the Dark Knight to an entire generation of movie-goers.

Review in a Nutshell: Few works of cinematic speculative fiction deserve the word ‘visionary’ to describe their aesthetic. Dark City is one such film, although Paul deducts a few points for the bombastic nature of the movie’s conclusion.

featuring Max Dunn and Tom Pandich.

Review in a Nutshell:  A dark, gruesome film that explores twisted romance and strange, sado-masochistic themes, Hellraiser spawned eight sequels and introduced one of America’s iconic horror figures, Pinhead, the high priest of the Cenobites. This is not the sort of film that is likely to endear you to your significant other, unless your significant other is Clive Barker.

Another work of staggering, artistic brilliance…

Sasquatch Rides a Harley
It’s true. Sasquatch Rides a Harley is now available. These stories have been known to make the angels weep.
Well, maybe it wasn’t the stories so much as the savage pummeling with a Wiffle bat. Regardless, I’ve published a new collection of stories on the Amazon kindle store, and these are even better than the last batch.

Review in a Nutshell:  A high concept, low budget comedy masquerading as an Eighties genre film, The FP is great.  Let the haters hate; we love this film, yo.

Hold on to your magical bo staves, because The Forbidden Kingdom is definitely not the Greatest Movie EVER!

Click on the movie poster or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Sean “Hollywood” Hunting.

Review in a Nutshell: With glimmers of its true potential shining through despite poor editing and a hackneyed script, The Forbidden Kingdom nevertheless manages to squander an enormous amount of talent.  Our whopping 63 minute podcast explains all the reasons why Sean describes this film as a ‘kung fu love letter written by an illiterate’.

Click on the Japanese DVD cover or the title above to download our review of the film, featuring Andrew from The Veef Show and Collection-DX.

Review in a Nutshell:  Low budget but groundbreaking, 20 Minutes into the Future is one of the few films that really deserves the term ‘cyberpunk’.  It has a droll, British sense of humor and great production design, and I highly recommend it to anyone that can manage to track it down.
